Independent Social Work Matters

We do training, assessments of parenting capacity and risk, assessments of attachment, video interaction guidance (VIG), supervision and consultancy.

Assessment of Parenting Capacity and Risk

Our standard assessment provides a comprehensive history and understanding of how potentially harmful parenting behaviours may, or may not, impact on parenting capacity and child safety. We also provide global family assessments, and can assess multiple parents or potential carers, and children from 0-18 years of age.

Assessment of Attachment

Attachment has long been considered relevant to family court proceedings but its usefulness has been limited by the diverse ways in which it is assessed. We offer the developmentally sequenced assessments of attachment tied to the Dynamic Maturational Model (DMM) of Attachment and Adaptation. These can be used as standalone assessments, to inform assessments of parenting capacity and risk, or aid treatment planning.

We offer vibrant, interesting and informative training programmes for social work practitioners, their managers and multi-agency partners across the health and social care sector. We provide learning environments that are innovative and fun focussed on helping participants to use their learning to change their practice.

Video Interaction Guidance (VIG)

Video Interaction Guidance (VIG) is a highly successful brief intervention recommended in the NICE guidelines for Attachment (2015). The aim is to enhance communication within relationships. It gives individuals a chance to reflect, draws attention to elements that are successful and supports clients to make changes where desired. When used by professionals to reflect on their practice, it is referred to as Video Enhanced Reflective Practice (VERP).

Consultancy and Supervision

We have a particular interest in supervision and staff development. We support workers to reflect on their clinical practice and develop functional family formulations. We also welcome the opportunity to help teams find solutions to problems they’re experiencing.
